The Murmurations project is excited to announce some new additions to the open data commons, thanks to the work of the team at Community Exchange System (CES). CES has been instrumental in supporting the establishment of more than 370 new groups providing mutual credit in South America this year, alongside a few additional groups in other regions. The new groups highlight the growing momentum of the regenerative economy across South America.
To amplify the visibility and accessibility of the groups with at least one transaction, CES has added 218 to the Murmurations map using the Community Currency and Organisations schemas. By sharing their information openly, they’ve made it easier for individuals and organisations passionate about alternative economies to discover and connect with these initiatives.
Mutual Credit in South America
Mutual credit systems are vital for fostering local resilience, community collaboration, and sustainable economic practices. By enabling people to trade goods and services without relying on traditional money, these systems encourage trust and cooperation, while reducing dependency on centralised financial structures. The addition of so many groups in Ecuador showcases the potential of CES as a tool for empowering communities in diverse contexts and the growth of interest in mutual credit in South America.
Why Open Data Matters
At Murmurations, we believe that open data is the key to building a more interconnected and equitable world. The new additions from CES demonstrate how anyone, anywhere, can contribute to the open data commons. When organisations share their data openly via Murmurations, it doesn’t just benefit their projects—it enriches the ecosystem as a whole, creating a dynamic resource for everyone working towards a regenerative future.
Join the Movement
This surge in mutual credit activity in Ecuador is a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of open tools like CES and Murmurations. As more groups, organisations, and networks add their information to the Murmurations map, the value of the data grows exponentially. Whether you’re starting a local initiative, looking to connect with others in the regenerative economy, or simply curious about what’s happening in your area, Murmurations provides a unique opportunity to explore and contribute.
We’re proud to support the incredible work being done by CES in South America and the upgrade of CES itself. If you’re part of a project, movement, or organisation aligned with these values or interested in sharing data across platforms and networks, consider adding your information to Murmurations and joining the global effort to create a thriving, regenerative future.
