Dear Database Stewards,
We’re excited to invite you to participate in the Murmurations Protocol Data Sharing Pilot, an initiative designed to accelerate the development of the open data commons for the regenerative economy and transition movement. This pilot offers a unique opportunity for networks and platforms to port their data from closed silos into a more accessible and decentralised format. By participating, you’ll help shape the future of how data is shared across regenerative systems.
Why join?
Many organisations working on regenerative initiatives maintain valuable data locked away in platforms like Airtable, Google Sheets, or other closed databases. The Murmurations Protocol is designed to break these barriers, enabling data sharing through a decentralised, flexible, and open network.
How does it work?
- Meet with us to discuss your data set up and options
- We work with you to determine the easiest on-boarding process for your needs
- Spreadsheet / CSV Import: You can export data from platforms like Airtable or Excel and import it directly into the Murmurations network using a CSV format. This is a straightforward approach, requiring minimal technical expertise. Find more details here.
- Linking Your Existing Platform via API: For those running more complex systems, you can connect your platform to the Murmurations Protocol through our API. This allows you to sync data automatically and keep your information up-to-date. More information can be found in our API developer guide.
- Murmurations WordPress Plugin: If your network of members uses WordPress, our profile generator plugin allows them to quickly create and update data within the Murmurations network directly from their websites. It’s a user-friendly way to contribute without needing custom integrations. Find more details here.
- We work with you to pick the right schema and develop an add-on schema if you have custom fields
- We support you to publish your data via Murmurations
- If you’re also interested in pulling in data via Murmurations to augment your existing maps, directories or databases, we can help with that too!
What you gain:
- Contribute to a shared commons for open, decentralised data.
- Connect with other regenerative economy and transition movement actors.
- Enable better visibility and accessibility for your initiatives across the network.
We believe that building an open data ecosystem is essential for the regenerative economy to thrive. By sharing your data, you can help unlock the potential of collective knowledge and foster deeper collaboration across platforms. Ready to get started? Learn more about the process and how to participate by visiting the Murmurations Guides.
Networks that are already part of the pilot:
Several networks have already joined the pilot and are sharing their data via Murmurations including:
- Transition Towns
- Karte Von Morgen
- The International Permaculture Collaboration Laboratory aka CoLab
- The Eco Restoration Alliance
- Co-ops UK
- The Internet of Ownership project
Other networks that are working to make their data compatible with Murmurations include:
- The Collaborative Technology Alliance
- Catalist
- Hylo
- Madison Mutual Aid Network Cooperative
- Tim Jenkin and team who run CES, a network of over 1500 mutual credit groups who are already exchanging offers and wants outside the traditional economy.
Let’s build the future of open data together!
